Processing and Obtaining Tax Identification Number (TIN)

Tax Identification Number (TIN) is an essential document in every individual and business person’s life. It is a one-of-a-kind number that serves as an identification tool. It records and contains all tax payment information of a particular person or business.

In order to be eligible for a Tax Identification Number, you have to be receiving revenue within the territory of Nigeria. TIN identifiers are used by establishments and individual people for the goal of tax payment. Each working person has to apply for the Tax Identification Number.

Requirements for Tax Identification number

For businesses:

  • Fill out all the fields marked * in the TIN application form.

After the form has been filled appropriately it should be taken to the tax station alongside the original and two copies of the under listed documents which will be dropped at the Federal Inland revenue Services (FIRS) office,

            (i) CAC2 and CAC7

            (ii) Company Seal

            (iii) Utility bill

            (iv) Application letter on company-branded paper

For individuals:

  • Complete the TIN application form. The details of the form include:

            (i) Full legal name

            (ii) Certified copy of birth certificate

            (iii) Valid Identification documents

            (iv) Proof of Citizenship

            (v) Current residential address

            (vi) Current occupation or position

            (vii) Primary e-mail address

            (viii) Mobile phone number

            (ix) Passport-sized photo if currently unemployed.

After the form has been filed and completed, the required documents and the TIN application form should be taken to the tax station. It usually takes up to 10 business days from the moment the application form is submitted. Though, these terms can vary, sometimes it can take longer. The Tax Identification number is valid for 10 years.
